Part of finding our place in the world is knowing who we are and feeling comfortable in our own skin. Many years ago when I was working as a Youth worker, I was lucky to do some training called the Enneagram - a study of the 9 basic types of people.

The enneagram describes why we behave the way we do, and it points to specific directions for individual growth. It is an amazing tool for improving relationships with family, friends, and those you work with.

The roots of the enneagram go back many centuries. Its exact origin is not known, but it is believed to have been taught orally in the Middle East by Sufis. The Russian mystical teacher G I Gurdjieff introduced it to the west in the early 1900s

For the next 9 weeks I am going to give you a little insight into each of the 9 types as described in the enneagram. This week we are going to start with
Number 9, the peacemaker.
These people are the most beautiful people to hang around with. They have an easy personality, and everyone enjoys their company

Nines are motivated by a desire to keep the peace, merge with others, and avoid conflict. Nines have a tendency to take on the qualities of the other 8 types, so they appear to have many variations in their personalities, from gentle and mild mannered, to independent and forceful. In my experience, they are very easy to get along with, and are

  • Pleasant
  • Peaceful
  • Generous
  • Patient
  • Receptive
  • Diplomatic
  • Open minded and
  • Empathetic.

In their not so healthy state, they can be

  • Spaced out
  • Forgetful
  • Stubborn
  • Obsessive
  • Apathetic
  • Passive-aggressive
  • Judgemental and
  • Unassertive
